About Nourish and Mind
NourishAndMind.org is a directory of 3,796 therapists and counsellors in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Every one of them lists eating and food-related issues, body image, or both, among their areas of focus.
Who it is for
It is for adults whose relationship with food, or with their body, has started to take up more room than they would like. That might show up as worry or guilt around eating, as eating that seems tied to stress or low mood, or as a harsh way of seeing yourself. It is also for people supporting a child, partner, parent or friend who is finding this hard.
It is also for anyone who wants to look up a therapist they have heard of. You do not need to be sure that therapy is right for you before you read a profile.
Which therapists are listed
The directory currently lists 2,772 therapists in the United States, 916 in the United Kingdom and 108 in Australia. Each one lists eating and food-related issues or body image among their focus areas. Most also work with many other concerns, such as stress, low mood, self-esteem, relationships, family and work, and each profile shows all of them.
Listing a focus area is not, by itself, evidence of specialist training. If particular experience matters to you, ask the therapist about it.
Credentials differ by country
Therapists in the United States list a state license and, usually, an NPI number. Therapists and counsellors in the United Kingdom and Australia list membership of a professional body instead, for example the BACP or NCPS in the UK, or ACA, PACFA or AASW in Australia. Each profile shows the details on record so you can check them yourself.
What talk therapy can and cannot do
Talk therapy offers emotional support for adults. It can give you a regular time to talk about how food, your body and your mood are affecting your days, your relationships and your sense of yourself. No therapist can promise a particular outcome.
Online talk therapy is not specialist eating-disorder treatment, medical monitoring or nutrition advice, and it does not replace your doctor. If you have physical symptoms, are eating very little, are making yourself sick, or your weight is changing quickly, please see a doctor.
Where the profiles come from
Profiles are based on information supplied by BetterHelp, an online therapy platform. Each profile shows the credentials, focus areas, approaches, experience and languages the therapist lists.
We are independent. We do not employ the therapists and we do not recommend one over another. When you follow a link to BetterHelp from a profile or topic page, we will earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
What this site is not
This site shares information. It is not medical advice, a crisis line or an emergency service. If you need help now, in the US call or text 988 (or 911 in an emergency). In the UK call Samaritans on 116 123, or the Beat helpline on 0808 801 0677 (or 999 in an emergency). In Australia call Lifeline on 13 11 14, or the Butterfly helpline on 1800 33 4673 (or 000 in an emergency).
How to use the site
